Pentwater baseball struggles with errors in opening losses to Brethren

PENTWATER — Pentwater struggled with fielding miscues Thursday in its season-opening doubleheader against West Michigan D League opponent
Brethren, dropping games by scores of 7-6 and 19-7.
Game one was the one that got away for the Falcons, who scored four times in the third inning to grab a 5-1 lead. They took that lead on consecutive RBI singles by Kyle Oomen and Ben Wisenbaugh and a bases-loaded walk by Bennett Bane.
Brethren, though, came back with six runs in the fifth and final inning, fueled by Falcon fielding miscues. The Bobcats ripped consecutive RBI singles to grab the lead and added an insurance run later in the inning. Jamison Clark's RBI double in the bottom of the inning put the Falcons in position to tie it up, but Brethren pitcher Chase Schmidt was able to get a strikeout to preserve his team's win.
Oomen had two hits for the Falcons, and Ben Roberson scored two runs.

In game two, Brethren, again helped by some Pentwater errors, raced to a 14-1 lead. While the Falcons attempted to come back later in the game,  they couldn't get close enough to avoid a mercy-rule defeat.
Abram Kieda paced the Pentwater offense with three hits, including a double, and had three RBI. Wisenbaugh added two hits, and Oomen scored three times.
