PENTWATER — Pentwater split its season-opening doubleheader against
West Michigan D League foe Brethren Thursday, taking game one 9-5 and
losing a back-and-forth battle in game two, 14-12.
The Falcon
bats were strong early, scoring all nine of their game-one runs in the
first three innings. Pentwater scored three times in the first by taking
advantage of five walks and a hit batter. Amelia Barter laced a RBI
double in the second inning. In the third, Grace Riggs smashed a RBI
triple and Karina Olivarez drove in two runs with a double.

Olivarez
was one of three Falcons with two hits each in game one, and she drove
in three runs. Riggs and Lauren Davis also each got two hits, and
Charlie Swanger drew walks in all four of her plate appearances. Aubrie
Adams got the win, allowing eight hits and striking out five.
Pentwater
trailed 9-1 in the third inning of game two before rallying, but
Brethren was able to hang on for the win. After the Falcons got the
score to 9-6 in the fourth inning, Brethren responded with a five-run
fifth. Pentwater then rallied to score six in the bottom of the fifth
before the game was called for darkness.
The Falcons drew 13 walks in the nightcap. Barter got two hits, and Adams hit a double. Swanger scored three runs.
