Shelby baseball sweeps Onekama, moves to 6-0

Shelby played two strong all-around games Thursday against Onekama, earning a doubleheader sweep, 8-3 and 8-1.
The Tigers (6-0) came out of the dugout hot on offense, scoring eight times in the first three innings of the opener. Chase Simon ripped a two-run triple to open the scoring, and Declan Waller and Neil Gowell each got RBI singles in the second to extend the lead.
Waller and Leighton Belasco each got two hits for Shelby in the opener. Simon pitched five innings and struck out nine, allowing three runs on four hits.
Shelby ripped off all eight of its game-two runs in the second inning, taking advantage of several walks. Colin Fenton had a two-run single in the outburst, and Trevor Weiss provided the inning's biggest hit, a two-run triple. Weiss then scored on a wild pitch.
Weiss got two hits in the game, and Waller struck out nine in three innings of work on the mound.
