Shelby played two strong all-around games Thursday against Onekama, earning a doubleheader sweep, 8-3 and 8-1.
The
Tigers (6-0) came out of the dugout hot on offense, scoring eight times
in the first three innings of the opener. Chase Simon ripped a two-run
triple to open the scoring, and Declan Waller and Neil Gowell each got
RBI singles in the second to extend the lead.
Waller and
Leighton Belasco each got two hits for Shelby in the opener. Simon
pitched five innings and struck out nine, allowing three runs on four
hits.
Shelby ripped off all eight of its game-two runs in the
second inning, taking advantage of several walks. Colin Fenton had a
two-run single in the outburst, and Trevor Weiss provided the inning's
biggest hit, a two-run triple. Weiss then scored on a wild pitch.
Weiss got two hits in the game, and Waller struck out nine in three innings of work on the mound.
