Shelby pitchers Jayna Burmeister and Jordan Wolting were impressive
Thursday, propelling the Tigers to a doubleheader sweep of Onekama, 2-1
and 8-1.
Burmeister allowed only two hits and no earned runs
in the opener. She struck out 13 batters and walked two. She also drove
in the Tigers' first run with a first-inning double to score Emma
Stovall. In the second inning, Izzy Rudat walked, stole second and came
around to score when Allie Stovall singled and the Portagers made a
fielding error.
The sixth and final inning got interesting
when Onekama took advantage of two errors to score a run and get the
tying run to second base, but Burmeister recorded a strikeout to clinch
the win.
In game two, Wolting also allowed only two hits and no earned runs. She struck out seven and walked eight.
The
Tiger bats took some pressure off early by scoring four times in the
first inning, thanks to the first seven batters of the game drawing
walks. Only two more Tigers (6-0) walked in the game, but Stella
Springer got two hits, one of them a double, and drove in two runs.
Jaedyn Allen had a hit, two RBI and two runs scored.
