Shelby's track teams finished third and Pentwater was fourth Friday
at the four-team Optimist Invitational in Scottville. Mason County
Central and Mason County Eastern also competed in the meet.
The
Tiger boys performed well in the sprints, winning all three individual
events. Isaac Garcia grabbed wins in both the 100 and 200-meter dash,
posting times of 11.72 and 24.37 seconds respectively, and Elijah
Dashiell took the win in the 400 with a time of 56.79 seconds.
Also
for the Shelby boys, Jaylin Henderson got the win in the shot put with a
personal best effort of 36-10.5. The 3,200-meter relay team of Parker
Weirich, Chace Oakes, Jaciel Moreno and Devon Garcia won the race in a
time of 9:58.5. Weirich also finished second in both the 1,600 and the
3,200 with personal best times of 5:20.4 and 11:28.3.
Noel
Parker highlighted the Tiger girls' efforts, grabbing wins in both the
400-meter dash and the 1,600-meter run. Parker posted times of 1:13.7 in
the 400 and a personal best 6:22.98 in the 1,600. Kathryn Beyer added a
win in the 800, with a time of 2:53.5. Parker and Beyer also joined
Grace Hasenbank and April Luna to win the 3,200 relay, posting a time of
11:55.4.
Nova Gottschalk added a Tiger win in the 100 with a
time of 14.40 seconds. Peyton Rapes took second in the shot put (27-8)
and Haylie Smith was second in the high jump (4-4).
The
Pentwater girls' team picked up two wins at the meet. Lauren Davis took
first in the 200 with a time of 30.59 seconds, and she joined Karina
Olivarez, Lexi Smith and Emma Werkema-Grondsma to win the 400 relay in a
time of 1:00.1. Bailey Case finished second in the 3,200 (14:41.6) and
the 800 relay team of Smith, Werkema-Grondsma, Olivarez and Lila Merrill
was second (2:10.4).
For the boys, Chase McGuire-VanGills
placed second in the 200 and set a personal best time (24.62). He also
set a PR in the 100 (11.92) and the long jump (17-3.25), taking third in
each.
Logan Fatura placed second in discus (121-3), and the
400 relay team of McGuire-VanGills, Fatura, Jacobo Martin and Tyler
Zimmer was second (54.21).
In all, coach Erika Fatura said, the Falcons set 14 personal bests at the meet.
"This is just a great group of athletes who are genuinely good people to
be around," coach Fatura said. "They support their teammates, take time to reflect, and
aren’t afraid to be proud of their performances, or motivated when
things don’t go as they had hoped. The team continues to build momentum each meet."
