Hart pulled out two close wins over Holton Thursday in West Michigan Conference Rivers action, 4-2 and 8-4.
The
Pirates (13-9, 7-3 WMC Rivers) led throughout game one and scored a key
insurance run in the top of the seventh inning to secure the win. Hart
only had three hits in the game, but took advantage of Holton errors and
made productive outs at the plate to help its cause. Reese Smith got
the win, striking out three and allowing no earned runs on five hits.
Hart
erased an early deficit in game two, scoring twice in each of its final
three trips to bat to get the win. ElliAna Guikema had a two-run single
in the fourth inning to tie the game at 4, and Elyssa Tanis and Sydney
Bateson delivered RBI singles in the fifth and sixth innings
respectively.
Makenna Carrier and Guikema each had two hits in
the game, and Guikema and Bateson each had two RBI. Smith pitched two
shutout innings and struck out three.
