Pentwater lost a county doubleheader to Hesperia Thursday, 20-13 and 14-4.
Game one was tied at 11 going into the bottom of the sixth inning before Hesperia erupted for nine runs, making the difference in the game. The first five Panthers reached base in the inning, including consecutive doubles by Gabby Tanner and Sarissa Conkle that brought in three total runs. Tanner later came to bat again and ripped a RBI triple.
The Falcons earlier had grabbed a 10-3 lead with a hot start at the plate before Hesperia rallied to tie it at 11 after five innings. The Falcons’ Charlie Swanger had a big game in the opener, going 3-for-4 with two doubles. She scored three times. Amelia Barter had a run-scoring double, and Alazae Acevedo had two hits.
Jeri Ward went 4-for-4 for Hesperia in the opener, and Tanner, Conkle, Olivia McGahan, Olivia Gerard and Madesyn Bolles got two hits apiece. Tanner drove in four runs and also picked up the win in the circle.
Game two picked up where Hesperia left off in game one, as the Panthers scored six times in the first inning. Bolles’ RBI triple was a highlight of the inning
Bolles went on to have three hits in the game. Tanner again got the win in the circle.
Swanger tripled and scored in game two for the Falcons, and Karina Olivarez had a RBI double. Alyssa Shafer, who recently joined the team, lashed a run-scoring double of her own. However, fielding miscues helped the Panthers, leading to 10 unearned runs.
