In a tight race for the top in the Coastal Conference meet
Thursday, Whitehall finished in third place, three points out of second
place and four out of the top spot.
The Vikings had two
flights reach the finals, and No. 2 singles player Akeelah Martin won
her flight championship with a pair of straight-set victories. No .3
singles player Riley Shafer finished second, winning a match in straight
sets before falling to North Muskegon's Grace Sheler in another close
battle in the finals, 7-6(5), 6-4. Sheler also edged Shafer in a tight
match at the GMAA tournament.
Whitehall's remaining flights
all finished in third place. Izzy Gould and Savanna Koernke took third
at No. 1 and No. 4 singles respectively, and all four doubles flights
finished third as well: Avarie Bentz/Braelee
Fogus, Addie Broton/Nora Grey, Emily VanDam/Bea Lewis and Ella
Sumerix/Molly Sobierto.
